The tad-spooky 1975 10cc song keeps playing in my mind over and over again. The sample definitely feels firmer/stiffer than anything I've ever woven, not uncomfortably so, but oh-so unfamiliar. If you've handled Japanese tie-dyed fine silk where the creases are meant to stay, this has that kind of a texture, but far less fine. Probably not something I'd think of buying in a store or gallery.
It's just a different kind of hand, not necessarily bad, but at this point, too different.

I'll give it a loving home! hee hee!
it's just yarn girl!
I like the pattern, so is it the fiber that makes the hand stiff? did you say it's cotton?
Cotton, yes, Dana, possibly too closely set, but I know there is also an advantage to the sett, too.
I love that song, Meg. And your piece is coming along beautifully. Hard to imagine there are so many ends -- how do your hands manage that?
Have a great weekend!
Ben just told me he can't get the song out of his head, so I have to blast Reba some more and keep working in the kitchen, Connie. Maybe even some baking in the end?
Meg, I suspect that you are right about the sett being the culprit. Try washing it and ironing it dry with lots and lots of pressure. This will make the fabric thinner and so a little less stiff. There's also commercial fabric softener but i would be hesitant to recommend that for handwovens.
Obviously I can't feel the hand over the internet, but it looks absolutely gorgeous.
The simple truth is, if I don't want to resley, I'll just have to go ahead and weave it. And I think I'll just do one and see how it goes.
Sad to say the most often sung 10cc song in this house is art for art's sake...
Dorothy, I didn't remember that song so I had to check YouTube, but the lyrics sounded so the opposite of the title! Interesting...
Yeah, Money, for God's Sakes!!!
